Planning
Just a few things.
How much time?
See what determines the duration of a small move: packing, carrying distance, stairs, crew and stops. Plan the actual job instead of relying on a promised time.

Room or box counts alone cannot predict moving time. A small load from the fifth floor can involve more work than several items ready beside the van. Assess the whole process before planning your time budget.
The essentials, in brief.
- Driving time is only part of the job.
- Both addresses affect the duration.
- An estimate is not a guaranteed finish time.
01 · Break the time into tasks
Break the time into tasks
Consider preparation, carrying out, loading, driving, unloading and carrying indoors. Add dismantling, packing or assembly only when agreed. Travel between addresses is just one part of the move.
Review both addresses. Note floors, lifts and the distance from a lawful parking place. Ask the seller or landlord about access if you do not know the location. This is more useful than calling it a quick trip.
02 · Help and preparation affect progress
Help and preparation affect progress
Closed boxes, labelled parts and a clear route can reduce interruptions. If friends are helping, they need to know when and where to meet and must also be available for unloading.
More helpers can change the pace but cannot remove every constraint. A small lift or narrow staircase may still determine the sequence. Choose the crew for the items rather than assuming time will be exactly halved.
03 · Leave room for changes
Leave room for changes
Avoid promising a precise finish time for your next appointment based only on a rough estimate. Traffic, unavailable contacts and access problems can extend a local job and increase its cost.
Send support a short inventory and photos if you need planning help. This guide does not give standard times for a one-room home. It helps identify the information a meaningful estimate needs.

One final review.
- Break the work into phases.
- Note floors and carrying distance.
- Confirm helpers will be present.
- Leave flexibility in the day's plan.
Have a good move — and a good start at your new address.
