Put a clean, completely dry mattress in a cover sized for its length, width and depth. Close the cover without putting tape on the fabric, and plan a route free from sharp edges. Do not fold, roll or compress the mattress unless the manufacturer explicitly allows it for that model.

The essentials, in brief.

  • A mattress cover protects against dirt; it is not lifting equipment.
  • Check all three dimensions, not just the name King or Queen.
  • The model’s instructions determine bending and transport position.

01 · Choose a cover

Choose by measurements, not size names.

Measure width, length and depth, then compare them with the cover’s stated dimensions and fit. Leave enough room to fit and close it without crushing the mattress. King is not, by itself, a Danish standard size.

Pelican’s materials list includes a King cover measuring 193 × 38 × 229 cm at DKK 49, checked on 13 October 2026. This is an example, not a recommendation for every mattress. 02 · Clean and dry

1. Remove bedding and inspect the mattress.

Pack bedding and loose textiles separately. Follow the care instructions if the mattress needs vacuuming or cleaning. Allow any moisture from cleaning to dry completely before covering it.

Do not trap dampness inside. A damp smell, visible mould or damage needs attention before transport. Do not use a cover to conceal a problem the team needs to know about.

03 · Fit the cover

2. Cover it fully without pulling the fabric.

Support the mattress on a clean, suitable surface. Get help to fit the cover without dragging the mattress across the floor. Lift and support it as the manufacturer directs; do not force a corner into an undersized bag.

Close the cover as intended. If its opening needs folding and taping, keep tape on the bag only. Check for holes, especially at corners and underneath. Keep plastic away from children and clear loose scraps from the carrying route.

04 · Plan handling

3. Keep the shape and use suitable support.

Measure doorways and turns at both addresses before carrying the mattress out. Arrange enough help for its weight and size. Do not drag it across pavement, thresholds or the vehicle; a torn bag exposes the fabric.

Never lift by the bag or loose plastic. Fabric mattress handles are not necessarily designed to carry its entire weight either. The photo shows a short, controlled passage with a straight mattress; it does not establish that every mattress can be transported on its edge in the vehicle.

Agree the route and support the mattress. Follow the model’s guidance for its transport position.

05 · Avoid damage

A factory roll is not a home-packing method.

Original vacuum-packed delivery does not mean you can safely vacuum-pack a used mattress again. Springs, foam, bonded layers and edges respond differently to bending. Find instructions for the exact model; if uncertain, plan to preserve its normal shape.

Keep heavy furniture and sharp frame components off the mattress. For longer storage, follow the manufacturer’s requirements for support, position, temperature and moisture. Remove transport packaging at the destination when the surroundings are clean and dry, then inspect the mattress before use.

06 · Transport and help

Tell us the size, type and access.

Provide actual dimensions, the weight if known and any manufacturer restrictions. Describe stairs and difficult turns. Teleporter can provide transport and the carrying help agreed for the job; packing help and supplied covers must be arranged with the manager beforehand.

Under local per-minute pricing, agreed packing and handling take working time. Materials are charged as agreed. The mattress and frame are separate packing tasks even when they travel together.

07 · Questions

Questions about mattress packing.

  • Can I fold a foam mattress? It depends on the model. Foam does not automatically mean folding or rolling is allowed; follow the manufacturer’s guidance.
  • Is a bedsheet enough?A sheet offers some dust protection but may not enclose the mattress or keep it clean during handling. Choose a suitable moving cover.
  • Can a wet mattress go into a plastic bag?Wait until it is completely dry. Transport packaging does not resolve dampness or mould.

Ready for moving day?

One final review.

  • Length, width and depth are measured.
  • The model’s shape and position instructions are checked.
  • The mattress is clean and completely dry.
  • The cover encloses the whole mattress.
  • Access and the number of helpers are planned.
