Find a lawful place for the van at both pickup and delivery, check the signs and agree a fallback before moving day. You arrange access and pay for ordinary paid parking. A parking payment does not reserve the space, and an agreement with Teleporter does not replace a required municipal permit.

The essentials, in brief.

  • Separate parking, loading and unloading, and permission to occupy road space.
  • Send the address, photographs of the signs and the carrying distance in advance.
  • Always discuss an uncertain or prohibited location by phone with the manager — the driver cannot approve a special arrangement.

01 · Parking or loading

No parking and no stopping mean different things.

Loading and unloading may be allowed where parking is prohibited. Where stopping is prohibited, the vehicle cannot stop to load either. Copenhagen’s parking guide explains the distinction; other rules and supplementary signs still apply.

Have the items ready for carrying. Packing the last boxes, waiting for a seller or assembling furniture must not automatically be treated as unloading. Payment, hazard lights or someone remaining in the van do not make an otherwise unlawful position lawful.

  • Ordinary parkingCheck the zone, payment, time limit and any parking-disc requirement. The space must fit the vehicle and be used under the local conditions.
  • Loading and unloadingCheck whether the particular position and activity are allowed. An empty patch close to the door is not automatically a stopping place.
  • Private parkingRead the operator’s signs and ask the property office about access, visitor registration and gates. A municipal parking payment does not automatically cover private parking.

02 · Reserving space

Reserving road space is different from buying parking time.

If road space must be cordoned off for the move, check the municipal process called råden over vejareal. It covers work vehicles with an authorised total weight of at least 3,500 kg; smaller vehicles follow ordinary parking rules. Confirm the actual vehicle with the manager first — its appearance is not enough.

When a removal company is used, the municipality identifies that company as the applicant. Prepare your access information and contact the manager early. Explicitly agree whether the job is possible and who handles the application, signs and any costs; this is not automatically included in a booking.

  • Allow enough timeThe municipality states 10 working days for public roads and around 15 working days for private shared roads; it can take longer. Submitting an application is not the same as receiving permission.
  • After permission is grantedFollow the approved traffic-management plan. The municipality requires authorised traffic signs at least 24 hours before using a parking area and registration of vehicles already parked there with the police.
  • Private shared roadsMunicipal permission and the road owner’s consent are separate. Check both: public permission alone does not give you the right to use the owner’s space.

03 · Who arranges access?

Make the access plan specific at both addresses.

As the customer, you arrange access and pay for ordinary paid parking. Explain where the van can stop, where the entrance is and how far the items must be carried. Agree how the parking payment will be handled with Teleporter so that the correct vehicle and period are registered.

You must check the stopping place and any special permissions with the municipality yourself. If you want the van to drive onto the pavement closer to the entrance, first check whether this can be permitted at all and arrange any necessary permissions. A shorter carrying distance does not give you the right to drive or park on the pavement. For road-space occupation involving a removal company, the municipality requires the company to apply; agree that part separately with the manager.

Send photographs of the street, the entire sign including supplementary panels, and the entrance. Include the date and time window, gate code or contact person, lift and any access hours. Ask the seller too when collecting furniture: an access plan matters just as much for a single sofa as for a home move.

04 · Call the manager

“I’ll pay the fine” is not an agreement with the driver.

If you insist on parking where it is prohibited to speed up the transport, you must first call Teleporter’s manager to discuss the situation. The driver cannot approve such an arrangement; it always requires the manager’s prior approval by phone.

Under Teleporter’s agreement with you, you pay all parking charges and parking fines resulting from your insistence on that location. Check the stopping place and any permissions in advance instead of relying on a promise to pay.

The agreement about costs does not change traffic rules or how the authorities determine legal liability. The manager’s approval does not replace any required permission either. The driver can still refuse the location.

05 · A fallback plan

Your first choice may be occupied when the van arrives.

Imagine collecting a sofa from a residential street. The preferred space is beside the entrance, but an ordinary parking payment cannot reserve it. Check a lawful alternative farther away and tell the manager about the carrying route before the job starts.

Check the conditions again close to arrival. Roadworks, new signs or a locked gate may change the plan. If the space is occupied, let the team know and agree the new location — do not ask the driver to block the street while you look for keys. If delivery access is also difficult, the fallback must cover both stops.

06 · Questions and answers

Common questions about parking for a move.

  • Does paying for parking reserve the space? No. Payment concerns parking under the location’s conditions; it does not ensure that a particular area is free when you arrive.
  • Does every move need a special permit? No. First establish the vehicle, activity and location. Lawful ordinary parking or loading is different from permission to occupy road space.
  • Can I agree to cover a parking charge directly with the driver? No. A prior phone call and the manager’s approval are always required. If you insist on a prohibited location to save time, Teleporter’s agreement requires you to pay all parking charges and fines resulting from that request. Parking rules still apply.
  • Does this also cover Frederiksberg? Not its municipal application process. Frederiksberg is a separate municipality with its own guidance. Check which municipality the exact address belongs to.

Ready for moving day?

One final review.

  • Both addresses and their municipality have been checked.
  • Signs, time restrictions and any payment requirements have been checked.
  • The vehicle, required space and carrying distance are clear.
  • Gate access, lift, keys and a contact person are ready.
  • The stopping place and any permissions, including pavement access, have been checked with the municipality; the applicant, owner’s consent and signage are arranged.
  • The manager has been called about any uncertain or prohibited location; the driver does not approve special arrangements.
  • There is a lawful fallback at both addresses.
