A sofa fitting inside your living room does not mean it can reach the room. Check its transport dimensions and the entire route out of the old address and into the new one. A single door-width measurement cannot establish whether it can turn on a landing.

The essentials, in brief.

  • Use the actual transport dimensions.
  • Measure openings and turning space.
  • Check collection and delivery access.

01 · Find the dimensions in transport condition

Find the dimensions in transport condition

Ask the seller for width, depth, height and photographs from several angles. Check whether legs or modules can be removed according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Use the dimensions of the item as it will actually travel.

Do not plan around compressing or forcing the frame. Include known weight: a sofa bed may require different lifting help from a light sofa of the same size. If the team must dismantle anything, agree that work beforehand.

02 · Measure clear openings and working space

Measure clear openings and working space

Check the usable opening, including anything that reduces it such as the door leaf, handles or fixed projections. Look at the space before and after the doorway; a corridor opposite it may prevent the required turn.

For stairs, consider landings, turns, railings and overhead clearance. For a lift, check both the door and the cabin. Photograph the wider context so support can see how the passages connect.

03 · Check both buildings, not just your home

Check both buildings, not just your home

Ask about the exit route at the seller’s address as well as the entrance at yours. Furniture may have been assembled inside a room or brought in through a different route in the past.

A plan for getting it downstairs is incomplete if the delivery stairway is tighter. Send the relevant measurements and photographs to support before booking, especially if you are buying the sofa before you have seen the building.

04 · What if the route is still uncertain?

What if the route is still uncertain?

A photo-based assessment helps planning but does not guarantee passage. If the sofa cannot be moved safely on the day, contact support. Agreed dismantling or a specialist solution may be needed; ordinary transport does not include crane lifting.

Time spent resolving a customer-side access problem does not automatically pause a local booking. Measuring first can avoid unnecessary attempts, waiting and the cost of transporting an item that cannot enter the destination.

Ready for moving day?

One final review.
