A good furniture find only becomes a good purchase when it can travel safely from the seller to your home. Measurements, access details and a clear agreement prevent avoidable surprises.

The essentials, in brief.

  • Measure the sofa and the full access route at both addresses.
  • Agree the time, access and carrying responsibility with the seller.
  • Choose transport using both the measurements and carrying needs.

01 · Measure the sofa

Measure the furniture and the entire route.

Write down the sofa's width, height and depth. Ask the seller whether legs, cushions or other parts can be removed and whether instructions or loose fittings are available.

Measure doors, stairwells, lifts and the tightest turns at both collection and delivery. The question is not only whether the sofa fits the room, but whether it can travel all the way there.

02 · Arrange collection

Confirm the time, address and responsibilities.

Agree on a time when the seller can provide access and the sofa will be ready. Confirm the exact address, floor and any entry codes or parking conditions.

Also agree who will help carry at collection. A marketplace purchase does not automatically include help getting the furniture out of the seller's home.

03 · Choose transport

Match the vehicle and help to the actual sofa.

Use the measurements and access details when choosing transport. Consider not only the space in the vehicle but also how the sofa can be carried safely through the building.

Include the key details in the booking: measurements, floors, lift, distance to the vehicle and whether the sofa can be dismantled. Mention especially heavy or fragile parts so the requirements can be clarified.

  • At collectionMake sure the sofa is empty and loose parts are collected.
  • During transportProtect surfaces and corners with suitable materials.
  • At deliveryClear the route and decide where the sofa should stand.

04 · Receive the sofa

Make room before the sofa arrives.

Move other furniture away from the route, open the necessary doors and protect delicate floors where appropriate. Keep fittings and tools together if the sofa needs reassembly.

Check the furniture once it is in place and confirm that all loose parts arrived. Put packing and protection away only when you know the sofa is positioned correctly.

Ready for moving day?

One final review.

  • The sofa measurements and removable parts are known.
  • Doors, stairs and lifts have been checked.
  • Collection time and access are agreed with the seller.
  • The vehicle and carrying help suit the job.
  • The route into your home is clear.
